I was jogging across the Walmart parking
A President’s Choice Truck, turning in front of the McDonald’s sign
blocked my way
I noticed the shoelaces to my left Nike shoe were untied
My brand-new Atari branded t-shirt was torn at the chest
My smelly Bill Burroughs shorts bought on Redbubble were ripped at the crotch
And a lady wearing a Hugo Boss business suit and Astros baseball cap waved at me
and I tripped
Fell flat on the asphalt littered with Doritos packaging, empty Budweiser cans
When I came to, a teenager
His Vuarnet sunglasses sliding down his pasty face
His Rolex wristwatch jangling loosely around his mutilated arm
Levi jeans cut at the skinned knees
Sang the lyrics to Smells Like Teen Spirit and Fly Like an Eagle mashed together
Broke out in a MC Hammer breakdance routine
His Bruce Willis face grimacing ecstatically
His belly flopping like Big Mac falling to the floor
And he said, “You look like a Chiquita banana getting ready for a smoothie.”
